Fire Flies
About us
Fire Flies is an international ensemble of artists based in between France and Québec.
We are acrobats, dancers, actors and musicians. An ambitious team of artists drawing on a diverse set of skills, and a shared appetite for art that surprises.
Our world is one of physical storytelling and visual impact. We sometimes work with original compositions and live music.
Previously known as Breadknives, the company was founded by Nina Danon and Justine Arden as a collaboration in between Paris-based Jacques Lecoq graduates and London-based classical musicians. After the creation of our first show The Emperor of America – blending physical theatre and live music, the company is evolving to include dance and circus performers.
We have taken a new turn under the name Fire Flies.
Our creations still spring from physical theatre storytelling: we start in a theatrical setting, often playing on tensions. As the emotions rise, our scenes evolve from a theatrical context to emotional, and physical outbursts performed by highly skilled acrobats and dancers.
Every performer here is a creator. Our work focuses on a continual research for new performative languages: we encourage mistakes, we support exploration, we promote fearlessness.
We want to break down genre barriers and bring to the stage new, brash and generous art creation that is accessible to all.
